Plug Back In: Teen Gaming Support Programme in Singapore
Plug Back In is an eight-week family programme in Singapore for parents and teenagers struggling with excessive gaming, constant arguments about gaming, screen time battles or unhealthy digital habits.. The programme helps families rebuild trust, improve communication and create healthier gaming boundaries together.
Our programme draws on evidence-based family therapy approaches, including Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT), one of the most researched interventions for adolescent behavioural and family difficulties.
Who is this programme for?
Plug Back In is suitable for families where gaming has started to affect communication, school motivation, sleep, family relationships or emotional wellbeing. It is especially helpful when parents feel stuck in repeated arguments about gaming and screen time.

Why this approach works
Many families try to solve gaming problems by focusing only on rules, limits or punishments. While boundaries are important, they often do not work on their own when gaming has become a source of comfort, achievement, escape or social connection for a teenager.
Plug Back In helps parents and teens understand the emotional and relational patterns behind excessive gaming, reduce conflict and create realistic boundaries that the whole family can work towards.
Meet Your Programme Facilitator
Plug Back In is developed and personally facilitated by Zachariah Lail, Supervised Marriage and Family Therapist at The Counselling Place.
Throughout the eight-week programme, your family will work with the same facilitator, allowing trust and understanding to develop over time.
Unlike group programmes, Plug Back In is conducted with one family at a time. This allows every session to focus on your family's unique circumstances, communication patterns and challenges, while providing practical strategies that can be applied between sessions.
Drawing on evidence-based family therapy principles, including Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT), Zachariah works collaboratively with both parents and teenagers to reduce conflict, strengthen relationships and develop healthier, more sustainable gaming habits.
By the end of the programme, your family will be able to:
Parents will learn to:
Understand why gaming has become so important to their teen.
Reduce conflict around gaming.
Communicate more calmly and effectively.
Set boundaries without constant arguments

FAQs
-
Yes. This programme is designed for parents and teenagers to participate together. Lasting change is most likely when both sides have the opportunity to better understand one another, practise new communication skills, and work together on healthier family habits.
-
We strongly encourage both parents or caregivers to attend whenever possible, as consistency between caregivers often makes it easier to reduce conflict and maintain positive changes at home. However, we understand this isn't always practical. If only one parent is able to attend, the programme can still be beneficial.
-
That's okay. Many parents have the same concern. We recommend arranging an initial consultation so we can better understand your family's situation and discuss the most appropriate way to engage your teenager.
This is actually a good conversion point into family or parent counselling.
-
Absolutely not. Many families experience conflict around gaming and technology. This programme provides a safe, supportive and confidential environment where families can learn practical strategies together without blame or judgement.
-
No. This programme is suitable for families experiencing ongoing conflict around gaming, excessive screen use or difficulties maintaining healthy digital boundaries. Your teenager does not need a formal diagnosis of gaming addiction to benefit.
-
Some families benefit from more personalised support. If we feel your family would be better served through individual or family counselling, we'll discuss this with you and recommend the most appropriate next steps.
