Jenny holds a Master of Social Science (Counselling) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology. She is a registered Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor with the Singapore Association for Counselling, a registered Social Service Practitioner with the Singapore Association of Social Workers and a Master Solution Focused Practitioner with International Alliance of Solution Focused Teaching Institute. In addition, she is also a certified Substance Abuse Counsellor with Association of Professionals Specialising in Addiction Counselling and a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation.
Jenny is a professional counsellor with more than 19 years of clinical experience, Jenny has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including family service and children's residential homes, criminal and judicial justice settings, education institutions and mental health hospital. She has supported clients across a variety of challenges and has worked with clients of all ages, and enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults.
During her work in family service centre and children’s home, she provided counselling to children and youth who presented with behavioural issues and mental health conditions. These issues include anger and stress management, family and peer relationships, trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-harm, and suicidal behaviour. She also conducted group work on anger management for children and youth. She worked with couples on their marital challenges and with parents on their parenting skills. She holds family conferences to facilitate the conversation among the family members, and through these conversations, the family has a safe space to share their concerns and how they would like to be supported by one another.
In her other professional settings, she had worked with adults who presented with mental health conditions such as psychosis, OCD, depression, anxiety, behavioural and substance addiction, at risk behaviour and family violence. She had conducted extensive group work for clients with addiction issues. In addition, she also supported clients who faced interpersonal and intrapersonal challenges.
Jenny is a strong believer in strength-based approaches, and she believes that individuals have the potential and internal resources necessary to overcome their challenges. She also believes in empowering individuals to recognise and utilise their skills to achieve their goals. She adopts an integrated approach in her counselling practice, combining person-centered, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
In delivering counselling services to her clients, she adheres to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. She also believes in the value of developing a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients and providing them with a safe space to talk about their challenges.
Jenny believes in giving back to society and hence she also involves in volunteerism with Singapore Army Forces Volunteer Corps, Singapore Police Force and Singapore Prison Services.
Jenny conducts her counselling in English and Mandarin.
