Ms Jessica Lamb

Counsellor/Accredited Mediator
Jessica holds a Master of Science degree in Therapeutic Counselling from the University of Greenwich, London, England and she is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is also a qualified mediator.
Jessica is British and moved to Singapore in 2009. She has experienced firsthand some of the challenges involved in adjusting to life in a new country and living as an expatriate. As a counsellor, she has worked with individual adults and young people on a broad range of issues including emotional breakdown, depression, anxiety and panic attacks, low self esteem, relationship and family breakdown, childhood and adult sexual abuse, grief and loss, as well as phobias, obsessive compulsive behaviour, anger and aggressive behaviour. As a mediator, she has worked with couples, families and neighbours in dispute.
Jessica is an integrative practitioner, drawing on person centred, existential, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural concepts as relevant to the work. She is flexible in her approach and so does not focus on one theoretical model, but instead tries to understand the needs of the individual.

Ms Rachael Walden

Rachael holds a Master of Health Science degree from the University of Sydney, Australia, a Graduate Diploma in Counselling from Australian College of Applied Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Swinburne Institute of Technology, Australia. She is a provisionally registered Psychologist with Australia’s New South Wales Psychologists’ Registration Board.
Rachael relocated to Singapore from Australia where she was employed in a private practice completing assessments, writing reports and providing feedback as well as being the first point of contact for clients seeking assistance from a therapist. Previously, Rachael worked for some ten years as a Recruitment Consultant, incorporating her counselling skills within a corporate business environment, providing career guidance and support to candidates with work-related concerns.
In Singapore, Rachael works with children, teenagers, individual adults, couples, and families on a wide range of issues. Her particular interest areas are bullying and self-esteem issues, vocational guidance, couples work, anxiety and mood disorders. A special interest area she has is in the neuroscience of brain adaptability and the brain’s potential for change and applying this in the therapeutic session to inform the client of their brain’s potential for change and the steps they can take to effect that change as desired.

Ms Miriam Capelli
BA, BSc (Psych), BPsych, MPsych candidate
Registered Psychologist
Miriam holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Psychology from Curtin University of Technology. She is currently completing a Masters in Clinical Psychology (MPsych) from James Cook University, Australia, Singapore campus. Miriam is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Reality Therapy and is registered as a psychologist with the psychologists registration board in the Australian Capital Territory.
Miriam is originally from Perth, Western Australia. In 2003 she relocated to Canberra where she worked with the Australian Department of Defence and the Defence Materiel Organisation in a range of leadership development roles. Her most recent appointment was as special adviser to the Head of Acquisitions. In this role she worked closely with the Project Managers of the major acquisition projects undertaken by the organisation, providing support and guidance on a range of leadership issues.
In 2008 Miriam commenced a Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Canberra. Following her relocation to Singapore in 2009, she took the opportunity to continue to study on a full time basis with James Cook University. Miriam has enjoyed this opportunity to diversify her skills as a psychologist. In Singapore she has worked with children and adults, both local and expatriate, on a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, self esteem issues and parenting concerns. She is particularly interested in working with people who are transitioning into a new life in Singapore. Miriam’s other areas of interest include couple therapy and family therapy.
Miriam prefers to use solution-focused therapies and cognitive behavioural techniques in an integrated manner. Miriam operates from a perspective that sees each client as a unique individual, and as such prefers to tailor her approach to suit their personal needs.

Dr Melanie Storry Chan

Consultant Psychologist
Melanie is the Director of VanSing Educational & Psychological Consultants and is a Consultant Psychologist to The Counselling Place LLP. She also holds an appointment as an external clinical field supervisor with NIE/NTU. She is certified as both an Educational Psychologist and Rehabilitation Psychologist. She is a Registered Psychologist with the Singapore Psychological Society, and a member of the American Psychological Association and the Psychologists Association of Alberta, Canada
Melanie obtained her Doctorate degree from the University of Alberta, Canada, with a specialisation in learning, development, and assessment. Prior to this, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours in Psychology. Due to her excellent grades, she received several prestigious awards and research grants. Melanie’s research, which focuses on human development, has been presented in France, Italy, Canada, and the United States.
Melanie is Canadian married to a Chinese Singaporean. She is able to work well with both the expatriate and local populations. Melanie has extensive experience working with children, youth, and adults, both individually and in a group. Her expertise lies in the areas of assessment - namely, educational, psychological, career, legal and neuropsychological testing. She is also able to provide interventions for children and adolescents with learning and behavioural challenges.
Melanie works collaboratively with parents and schools to help students achieve their educational potential. She is able to guide clinical, rehabilitation, insurance, EAP, and welfare agencies on issues of treatment planning and rehabilitation. Melanie also provides supervision to interns and other Psychologists in the area of assessment.

Ms Alison Brooks

Alison holds a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Psychology from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, as well as a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from the University of South Africa. She is currently completing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DPsych) from James Cook University, Australia, Singapore campus. Alison is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Reality Therapy and Theraplay.
Alison is South African. She left South Africa in 2003, and spent four years in England where she worked with adolescents and young adults with a range of emotional, behavioural and developmental issues. These included Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Down’s Syndrome, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, self-regulation and family of origin issues. Alison relocated to Singapore in 2007, where she took the opportunity to continue her psychology studies. In Singapore, she has worked with children, adolescents and adults, both local and expatriate, with a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorder, self esteem issues, parenting problems and stress. Alison’s other areas of interest include couple therapy and family therapy.
Alison adopts an integrative approach, combining person-centred and solution-focused therapies with cognitive behavioural techniques. Mr Glenn Graves

Counsellor
Glenn holds a Masters Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development from Saybrook Institute in San Francisco, California. He is an accredited facilitator for the FOCCUS marriage preparation and enrichment programme. Glenn is a full member of the Singapore Psychological Society. He is American and has lived in Asia for the past 9 years.
Glenn’s thesis work in Vietnam was focused on victims of human trafficking for prostitution who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and he had explored various Western and alternative therapies that could help these victims, within the Asian context of psychotherapy. He has counselled Expatriate individuals and families on a variety of issues, including but not limited to, anger management, anxiety, stress, alcohol abuse, marital conflicts, cross cultural marital conflicts, divorce, adolescents and their family, sexual abuse, aging, body image, self esteem, and grief.
Glenn takes an integrated approach, utilising techniques from Behavioural, CBT, Adlerian, Existential, and Person Centered therapies. His counselling philosophy places more emphasis on the current issue and future of the individual, without minimizing the importance of the past influences.

Ms Ho Shee Wai

Shee Wai is the Founder and Director of The Counselling Place. She holds a Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of Newcastle, Australia, a certificate in Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) from the EMDR Institute, USA, and a certificate in Advance Training in Ericksonian Psychotherapy and Hypnosis from the Milton H. Erickson Foundation, Inc. She is an accredited facilitator for the FOCCUS marriage preparation and enrichment programme. Shee Wai has extensive clinical experience working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families in both Australia and Singapore. She has provided individual and group training and supervision to other counsellors.
Shee Wai has 13 years of clinical experience and has been helping expatriates deal with their various life challenges in Singapore since 2002. She specializes in marital and relationship counselling. She has been helping couples with issues such as marital and relational conflicts; divorce and separation; marriage preparation and enrichment; cross-cultural relationship issues and parenting concerns. She also works with individuals on stress management, depression, anxiety, phobia, pain management, and grief and loss. Her training in EMDR enables her to be especially effective in working with all sort of trauma, e.g., family of origin and painful past experiences, accident, natural disaster, assault, rape or sexual abuse. Shee Wai also provides psychological assessment for adults and children. Having been a Home Study assessor for adoption, she is also able to provide pre-adoption and post-adoption counselling for individuals and couples on adoption related issues.
Shee Wai is registered as a Psychologist with Australia’s New South Wales Psychologist Registration Board and the Singapore Psychological Society. She is a member of both the Australian Psychological Society and the Singapore Psychological Society. Shee Wai has conducted talks and workshops on various topics, has granted numerous interviews with various newspapers and magazines, and has made several appearances as guest consultant for radio programs. Ms Judith Jamieson

Judith is the Founder and Director of The Counselling Place. Judith holds a Masters degree in Counselling from the University of South Australia, a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Psychology from the Open University in the UK, as well as an EMDR in EMDR Institute, USA She is a Registered Counsellor with the Singapore Association for Counselling. Judith is British but has lived in Singapore for over fifteen years and has a good understanding of the challenges presented by expatriate life here. She first began her training in counselling at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation and has subsequently completed courses at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships in London and the Dulwich Centre in Adelaide. She has also worked as a Bereavement Counsellor in London.
Judith has 6 years of clinical experience. She works with both the local and the expatriate communities in Singapore. Her practice concentrates on work with individual adults as well as families with children, with particular reference to accommodating change, adjustment to new environments, parenting skills, retrenchment, divorce and separation, anxiety and depression, and family violence. Judith’s previous experience as a Bereavement Counsellor gives her particular expertise in working with clients on grief and loss. She has worked with couples of various nationalities to resolve relationship conflict and misalignment. She has also had experience in helping adult and adolescent clients work on self-esteem and beliefs that stunt personal development. As part of her therapeutic work, she runs workshops on a variety of topics.
Judith utilizes family systems theory and a psychodynamic perspective in her work.

Marion holds a Master degree in Psychology from Osnabrueck University, Germany. She is further trained in Behavioral Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) (P1) from the EMDR Institute in Muenster, Germany. Marion is German and has lived in Singapore since 2005. Her professional and personal background enable her to be sensitive to work-life balance issues and stresses that many individuals, couples and families are experiencing in their lives as parents and expatriates.
Marion is experienced in working with adults, families and adolescents for a broad range of issues. She has a special interest and experience in working with traumatized clients, anxiety disorder, phobia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, depression, eating disorder, addiction, and psychosomatic disorder. She also works with couples, helping them to improve their communication skills and supporting them in finding their own way out of the crisis.
Marion is fluent in English and German.
